A new feature release: Searching for Alternate Names in the Search Bar

We’re excited to announce a new feature on the Aristotle Metadata Registry: Searching for Alternate Names in the Search Bar!

What does Alternate Type Search do? Alternate Type Search empowers Aristotle Metadata Registry users to find metadata items easily by searching for alternate names associated with them.

Why is it important?

  1. Enhanced Accessibility: Alternate Type Search improves accessibility by allowing users to search for metadata items using names they are familiar with, even if those items have alternate names.
  2. Efficiency: It streamlines the search process, saving time and effort for users who need to locate specific metadata items quickly.
  3. Flexibility: Users have the flexibility to refer to metadata items by different names, accommodating diverse naming conventions and preferences.

How it Works:

  1. Creating Alternate Name Types: Alternate name types can be created within a Stewardship Organization, allowing users to create alternate names for all types of metadata items within the same Stewardship Organisation. This enables users to refer to items with different names.

  2. Simple Setup: Follow a few easy steps to create alternate name types and enable searching for them:

  • Navigate to the Stewardship Organisation settings where you want to create an alternative name type.
  • Select ‘Add new Alternative Name Type’ or edit the existing one.

  • Enter all the required fields and ensure to select ‘Included in the search index’.

  • Save the changes.
  1. Effortless Searching: Once alternate names are added to metadata items, users can simply search for them in the search bar. The search results will display the metadata item that matches the alternate name searched for.

Alternative name added for a metadata item

The alternative name can be searched in the registry, and the search will display the metadata item that has that alternate name.
