Searchability of alternative names

We’ve created some alternative name types and created the names for metadata items as described here: How to add alternative names to a metadata item (aristotlemetadata.com)).

However we’ve found when we search for the name (e.g. “test de 1” in the link above) in Aristotle it doesn’t return items with the alternative name. Is there a setting to allow this to happen?

Regards,
Andrew

Hello Andrew,

At the moment; we have not implemented the functionality to allow search via alternative names. However, we have now added it to our backlog and we should be able to release this in the next few weeks! We will keep you posted with the status of this and let you know when we release the feature.

Cheers,

Thanks very much Chengwu.

Hello Andrew,

Just wondering which search you would prefer when you are searching for the alternative names. We have two options here:

  1. The global search

  2. Or the search in the browse page

Kind regards,
Chengwu

Hi Chengwu,

I personally tend to use the global search more frequently.

However I feel like Alternative Names should really appear in both search methods (both the global search and the search while browsing metadata).

Other information including text in Custom Fields is searchable in both search methods. Also most users won’t expect that the different search methods would return different results.

Thanks for progressing this issue.

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I have an update for you regarding the search functionality for alternative names. We’ve recently released a new feature that allows you to search for alternative names.

This enhancement provides users with greater flexibility and accuracy in finding items using their alternate names within the registry. For more information about how to use this feature effectively, you can learn more here: https://community.aristotlemetadata.com/t/a-new-feature-release-searching-for-alternate-names-in-the-search-bar/704

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Cheers,
Shikha
