Please enjoy this sneak peek of omnisearch, an upcoming feature of the Aristotle Metadata Registry!
What is omnisearch?
Omnisearch is a new way to locate content in the Aristotle Metadata Registry.
It takes the form of an innovative dropdown from the search bar in the registry’s header — any user signed into the registry can access the omnisearch by selecting this search bar from any page of the registry barring the homepage, and the advanced search page. You can also press alt+Q to access it without clicking!
Upon accessing the omnisearch, the following categories will display:
- Recently viewed metadata
- Recent issues
- Recent reviews
- Search History
- Popular
These contain links that can be used to quickly navigate to registry content that has been relevant most recently.
Upon entering text into the omnisearch, these categories will change to the following filter fields, alongside a results list:
- Stewardship Organisations
- Type
- Last Updated
As you type your search query and filter it using the filter fields, the results list will update accordingly. If you wish to dig deeper, the magnifying glass at the top of the omnisearch (right of the search bar) and the ‘See More Results’ button can be selected to search for unfiltered, and filtered search results (using the same filters chosen in the filter fields) respectfully.
Please enjoy the following video demonstrating how to use the omnisearch:
How does omnisearch benefit users?
The omnisearch was developed to hasten the process of finding registry content, and provide improved usability in general when searching for registry content.
If a user is searching for content that they have recently viewed, or is currently a hot topic amongst their peers on the registry, the omnisearch will more than likely display it before they even need to type into the search bar
If they need to dig deeper, the ability to do so directly from the omnisearch via filters and a live results list that updates as they type makes that next step easier than ever, too.
If a user does find that they need to use the pre-existing advanced search page, the ability to choose whether you take your omnisearch filters with you (via the ‘See More Results’ button) or leave them behind and search only with your entered text (via the magnifying glass button) ensures that even then, they are likely to find something closer to what they are looking for, sooner.
