Hi, I have some Value Domains which have large numbers of permissible values and am wondering if there is a way to add them in bulk. Would be a huge time saver.
Thanks
Robin
Hi Robin,
To do this, you can use the SDDF upload feature. Go to âCreate Metadataâ and click on âUpload SDDFâ.
Download the Excel template and fill in the value domain fields, such as Value Domain, Value Domain Definition, Value Domain Permissible Values, and so on. Once you are done, upload the filled template using the SDDF upload option, and you will be able to bulk upload value domains along with their permissible values.
Cheers,
Shikha
Thanks Shikha, I can only see one Value Domain Permissible Values column, so do I put the Permissible Values, Meaning and start and end dates all into that column? And where I have an existing VD and just wanting to add the PVâs, meaning and dates do I just use the existing VD name? Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks
Robin
Hi Robin,
Currently you can do bulk upload for the Value domain and the permissible values, but not for the start and end dates.
Just needed some clarification, are you trying to update the permissible values, start date and end date for a value domain, or you are looking to do it for bulk value domains altogether?
If it solves the issue you are facing, I would like to propose this as a suggestion, if you are looking to update one value domain with a lot of permissible values. We can add three more buttons along with the Add under the permissible value, when you go to âActionsâ - âOpen item editorâ - âComponentsâ Tab
Let me know if this is something you would like, otherwise we can discuss it in our upcoming meeting.
Cheers,
Shikha
Hi,
Just wondering if this feature every got put on the roadmap?
Currently updating permissible values and their meanings is a huge pain for value domains with lots of values, so weâd appreciate a way to update the value domain without having to create a new value domain using the simple data dictionary creation function.
Hi Sarah,
No, it was not added to the roadmap earlier, but we have added it now and had a few internal discussions about this functionality. We will include the download, replace and append option for value domain permissible values for individuals as well as in bulk uploads/SDDF.
I will keep you updated when we release this feature.
Cheers,
Shikha
Apologies for unearthing an old thread, but itâs relevant to some issues iâve encountered.
I have managed to use the SDDF importer to bulk add large numbers of permissible values to a NEW Value Domain, but am seeing an error when attempting to update an existing Value Domain (using itâs UUID).
I can confirm that I checked the CSV is encoded in UTF-8. Are there any suggestions for what could be causing this?
Hey there Arran!
No worries at all, weâd love to help! Unfortunately we havenât been able to reproduce that exact error (recording UTF-8) in our internal environments, but I do have some information that might help.
There are a few existing issues both with permissible values, and with UUIDs when using the SDDF tool. If itâs permissible values that youâre trying to add when you update a VD, this unfortunately isnât possible right now through this tool.
If youâd like to anything else to be updated though, removing any UUID columns that you might be using and sticking just to the value domainsâ item names seems to work just fine. Hopefully that works for your use case?
A fix for the issue regarding permissible values has already been roadmapped (alongside a few others regarding the SDDF) and will be released according to our usual release schedule, but if youâre repeatedly getting this UTF-8 error, feel free to reach out to our support inbox with some more details!
